Sponsors are a good thing don’t get me wrong but these comments are so funny.
By solely looking the comments and not knowing what the price would be you would think that prizes would be something really different. I mean mouse pads and headset will make you all go nuts? Right. “Pro” teams and you don’t have a mouse pad or headset already?! Well in that case this might be a great news for ya!
This is like teams are hunting for sponsorships and are like “we are now the coolest” when they finally get a sponson and a free mousepad…

I thought I was the only one who thinks this prizes are sh*t.
First of all, only the top 3 teams of first division get them. Well, not a good thing, but it’s acceptable…
But the prizes… OMFG – theplayers of the second best team gets a 25€ prize? The third best european team (and yet probably one of the 5 best clans in the world) gets a 15€ prize? It’s exactly what Crusa said: who the hell doesn’t have a better mousepad (div1 players)?
TBH, I think this sponsorship is a joke. One full year of advertisement in an semi-hardcore gaming community and they only need to “waste” less than 500€ in products?
Sponsors are great, but I would rather not have a sponsor than have a sponsor like this one, who is only taking advantage of us…

I use almost 10 years old Allsop bubbles mousepad :)
The prizes may be small but it’s a good start imo.

Rough cost of 1st place prize (depending where you shop) – £30.00* per unit
Rough cost of 2nd place prize (depending where you shop) – £15.00* per unit
Rough cost of 3rd place prize (depending where you shop) – £10.00* per unit)
Not including the shipping costs around europe
If you include the A,B,C..etc, sections of each division, there are 25 of them in total.
Therefore the total cost for one divisions prices would be (30*6)+(15*6)+(10*6) = £330.00
If we some how bagged a sponsership deal to give every division the same prize, the total would come to = £8250.00 and in euros = 8,596.00 – Personally I think we’d invest that kind’ve money in to a LAN, not an online competition.
As it stands ETF2L is a voluntary organisation, no one gets paid to admin this league and until now the players recieved nothing but an ego boost – whilst it’s unfortunate we can’t give what is essentially large lumps of cash out to our playerbase, you can’t even begin to slate SteelSeries, or ETF2L for attempting to make euro based online TF2 that little bit more competitive – especially with the doom-and-gloom “Credit Crunch” luring over our heads, I think its remarkable that SteelSeries came along and we should thank them for being the first company to sponser this league :) – as I’ve stated before we will be doing our upmost to bring more in – it’s not easy..
I’ve finally understood the phrase “You can’t please every one” :D

Steelseries gave TCM 6 x 5hv2 and qck+ for PC Gamer both good pieces of equipment
So does EVERYONE in the team get an headset for example? So if you have 10 people in the team you get 10?
Before ETF2L hadnt any sponsors, people were crying “Get sponsors with prizes for div1!”
Now ETF2L has a sponsor, and now people are crying “ZOMFG prizes arent good enough wtf??”
Srsly, mousepads and headsets are better than nothing imo.

Just for comparison, I paid 80€ for mine and they still sell for around that price over here, I don’t regret paying that much.
That said, even a 2€ price would be cool considering it’s “free”- people need to stop being ungrateful. TF2 is a joke when it comes to prices compared to other games but do you think CS (or whatever) tournaments started with pricemoney of several thousand? Geez..

To those who flame about the prizes:
Do you really think that sponsors sit around in their seats and say: “Come on, lets throw some money out.. what could we do to waste a lot of money and get as less as possible for it? Ahh, right! Lets sponsor one of the leagues of a *small-to-medium* fps game.”
Season 4 of ETF2L currently has 250 teams.. this gives a overall of around 2000 active players (if you have 8 active players per team). Thats fine and thats maybe the biggest amount for a TF2 league in Europe.. BUT it is nothing compared to the possibilities you have when you sponsor WC3, CS, CSS or CoD4 communities.
This sounds hard for TF2 but thats the stage of affairs for all of us ;)
However, i think thats a nice deal for ETF2L and all should be thankful to be a part of this sponsorship. (btw: QcK mousepads are totally great even if they do not cost soo much!)
Yes, steelseries is really great, even if i like the Siberia hs or the 5L Pad a bit more, but Mick&co deserve nothing worse than steelseries! (steelseries is the best^^)
At last ! A move which can really help TF2 community to increase. More yet to come i hope !
